I'll start off with Habitat. This was in Passira-Varjada, in Pernambuco, Brazil. It's basically the middle of nowhere. I didn't take many pictures myself, so I got some off of facebook:
Here we are, at school... at 11:30pm... sigh. There was a miscommunication with the HFH people, and they thought we wanted our flight 1:30 in the morning, not in the afternoon.
Waiting at the airport. In order: Me, Chinee, Scotty, and Sara.
Why are you taking pictures of me? grrrr... (Me&&Patrick)
Our flight was delayed 2 hours. So we all ended up falling asleep on the airport floor, starving. Our coordinator didn't let us eat before we went through security, and the places to in inside were... horrible, if not overly expensive. Me, Sara, Chinee, and Audrey.
FINALLY boarding...
Arriving at the Hotel/Pousada. There are no pictures of the corridors, but it reminded us of a mental institute, because of the lack of windows and dim lighting.
Arriving at the worksite. The heat attacks us brutally and we realize that we will not feel the touch of AC for the next 7 hours.
This is the first part of the school, which already had the foundation dug up. The other group eventually laid the foundation so we could start building the walls.
This is the other part of the school, which still needed to be dug up. Sara lovingly dubbed it the Grove of Death, after reading Heart of Darkness for our English class.
Time for lunch! Resting in the church before they call us for lunch... Some people collapsed on the benches and floor from heat and exhaustion.
Me trying on Pum's glasses. Nice, eh? Je suis très très intelligent.
Pum had to dig a hole for a septic tank for one of the houses. I decided to take a little dip inside to see how it is. Pretty good work, don't you think?
Keep on digging.. on the Grove of Death... da-ra-raaa-raa.. =.=
More digging... This is really hard work.. whew. HAhahah.
How is the other half doing? Looks like they're finishing up the foundation so the pedreios can make a layer of cemeter so we can commence the wall-building process.
THE TRENCHES ARE FINISHED!! The end of my victory lap... Now collecting the water bottles.
It really is a desert here... This is another cactus plantation we passed by, one of the many scattered around this part of Brazil.
FINALLY! We can start building the walls of the school. I don't have any pictures of me and my brick buddies building the house, but we did. I swear.
This is the house, with the roof almost finished. We did, in fact, finish the roof, but no one took a picture of it. Unfortunately.
more wall-building, my favorite task. Sensei was really happy with us, since our wall was practically, if not completely, straight. The other people didn't do a great job--they're newbies.
It was Alex's (Jung Eun's) birthday, so we're preparing to surprise her with ice cream!!

Lastly... Sara with her Big Mama and Scotty with Big Papa--the biggest rocks we got out of the trenches. In one piece.
Hope you enjoy the pictures!! Maybe I'll post some of the play after this one.. even though it'll be slightly out-of-order.
